Self-Worth

If there's only one thing you can own, let this be it.

Self-Worth

Detach your sense

Of self-worth

From how people

Treat you.

Stop looking at the world

To be an accurate reflection

Of your self-worth. It’s not.

Most often you’ll find

People will treat you

In the way that

Most benefits them

In the moment.

If they want something from you,

They will treat you well.

When they’re done,

They will leave you alone

Until they want something again.

If they want you

To agree to their terms

That are unfavorable to you,

They will devalue you.

This is to make you question

Your own self-worth.

It’s a ploy to have you capitulate

To their manipulation.

Don’t give in.

They’ll also devalue you

If they’re jealous of you

To make you doubt yourself.

Or they’ll devalue you

To prove they’re superior to you.

Or when they’ve found something

More lucrative than what you offer.

Or because they have bigger

Problems than you on their mind.

Or they have unresolved pain

Unrelated to you that

They’re taking out on you.

Or because of something

You said or did that

You’re aware of or not.

Or for any other reasons really.

Who can fathom the workings

Of the human mind?

It’s a bit of a quagmire.

Don’t step into it.

There will come a time

When you realize ‘Worth’

Is a human made concept.

Life does not recognize it.

The sun is not partial.

Neither is the moon.

The butterflies aren’t

Fluttering around trying

To prove their worth.

The flowers inherently

Do not associate with

The concept of worth.

It’s humans that discriminate

And price them differently.

Flowers are flowers.

If this concept is too far out

For you to relate to,

And you absolutely need

An anchor to base your

Self-worth on,

Base it on something

You’re able to control or influence

That is meaningful to you.

Your inputs relating to a goal

You want to accomplish.

Or how well you

Take care of yourself.

Or how far you’ve come.

Or the personal tragedies

You’ve already overcome.

Or your efforts at learning

A new skill or bettering

Your own life.

Just don’t let it be

Determined by others.

It’s a dangerous game

You’re best to stay out of.

After all

It’s your self-worth,

You know.
