self-love

Hi...This is a play that i just started writing. just then. it is nowhere near finished, but what i've written is something i think sums up the story.. there are gaps, yes, but i don't know how to fill them yet. so thank you for reading what i've done so far.

Four girls stand facing the audience. They’re "looking in the mirror", explaining the thoughts that hold them back.

Don’t say it.

I can’t believe it.

No one means it.

I’m not allowed to believe it.

I know I’m not loved. I don’t believe that I will ever be loved. And that is not good enough for her.

She mocks me. Her eyes are full of fire, but I still listen to every mocking word.

When…when they do say it…it doesn’t feel right. I can see in their eyes that they don’t mean it. At least… that’s what she tells me.

If I believe it…what they say…if I look at myself here and say that- (beat) I’ll fall further than you’ll ever know. She’ll hold me under... and I don’t think I can take that again.

You’re not loved.

I will never be loved.

They don’t mean it when they say I’m loved.

I…(ashamed) I’m not allowed to be loved.

There is more to my life than the words I cannot say.

I will believe in myself…even if she will punish me for it, I’ll believe.

Some of them mean it. It feels wrong, but her words ring louder than anything else. It won’t last.

I am allowed to love myself. To believe in love, that I am loved. She cannot stop me.
