someone tell the kookaburra

"stop singing"

i want peace

leave me be.

someone summon the magpies

to sing me some lullabies

explain to the kangaroo

and rosellas all around

that there is no more kindness -

the paper bag is empty,

free from all those metal coins

the collar across my neck is itching

is it because i'm bored?

let the lyrebirds mock me

i will scream and shout and cry

regardless of their taunts and tricks

as the smoke soars into the sky

there will be peace at last

one day i will find

but right now i'll just stay here resting

with your old branches by my side.

thank you,

old friend.

you're a good one, just know that.

you're my favourite big ol' gum tree

and i promise to never forget it.

Fin.

be kind

be human

be a kind human :)
