Seeking Me

Instructions For Disappearing

By Andrew C McDonaldPublished 6 months ago 2 min read

Tidbits … Scattered … Strewn

Memories …

Sights… Sounds … Smells

Flashing … Strobing

Peggy Sue … Buddy … Elvis, John, Paul

Her hand .. Her lips …

Her thighs … her eyes …

That smile … mischievous, inviting

Sweet nothings whispered, tears fallen

A large house … two stories

A room in the back …

Mickey and Minnie standing guard

Winnie lounging on the pillow…honey jar dripping

Children scampering…

Laughing … Running … Playing

Freeze tag … Red light, Green light

Hide and seek …

Where did they go?

Billy? Ellen?

Stormy Llewellyn? … Ah… gone to reward ..

When? … >…. > Ah, I don’t re…

I’m Surrounded by strangers

Claiming to be friends …

Friends, family …lovers …

Who are you again? …

Tidbits of memory …

Follow the bread crumbs

Scattered … Strewn … Markers

Like a path to reality

Reality lost in shadows

Occasionally a light breaks through

A flash of reality … Dad? Mom? here … ….

Gone …

Follow the bread crumbs of the past …

Where they lead …

Lead to happier times …

Strewn like discarded legos

Painfully jabbing my mind

As I stumble across them

Each flash a sharp edge

Digging into my fractured consciousness …

It hurts … it hurts … … it …

Tidbits … Scattered … Strewn

Memories …

Follow the bread crumbs lying in a path …

I play One Final Game …

Hide and Seek …

My mind …thoughts … My Self …

Hidden …

Lost in a past of swirling amorphous wraiths…

Blowing away like wisps of smoke

Eddying from a dead campfire ..

Who is seeking?

Is it me?

Am I hider or seeker?

Hidden in my own mind …

Seeking …

Happier times …

High School … Mr Blen… Blen…?? Math

Susan! Ah … Susan ….? Susan Wint?? … my love

First cuddle … First Kiss

Is that you?

Tidbits … Scattered … Strewn

Memories …

Sights… Sounds … Smells

Flashing … Strobing

Follow …

Step into that receding light …

Pray it leads home …

Home to my lost, fractured self …

Disappearing … In my lost psyche

As strangers cry …

Oh, this is so good, Andrew. The fleeting thoughts of dementia. The lack of connections. Loved the Koontz Easter egg thrown in, also. That is priceless
