Foot lifted
Prepared to step
Heart flutter
Synapses stutter
Do I take that step?
Do I turn, go back?
Back to a lightless room
In a weather beaten shack
Mind wandering
A momentary eternity pondering
Pondering vagaries of a life…
Was there meaning?
Ever?
Or merely strife?
My foot aches to drop
To feel ground
Shift beneath it’s sole
My meandering life
Wishing to be made whole
A single second in eternity
The weight of years
Spent in pain, joy, love, spite
Till finally I face my fears
Behind me a voice
I can’t really hear
Threats? Entreaties?
Or just a tired leer?
My foot descends
