Like prescription glasses
that see the world for what it is
I see through
what some are blind to
*
The obscured image
before my eyes
sharpens to high definition
*
I see through
the facades
that fool
*
He urges me
to believe
he's just as real
as I am
*
I smile
at the lie
*
We talk for a while
Conversation wandering
with a third
*
I say to them
"Most of the men
I dated were insecure."
*
The 'real' charmer's
eyes spatter
realizing he fits
that category
"Is that a turn off?"
*
A resounding yes
reverberated in the room
*
He insecurely asks
"How does one present
themself as secure?"
*
Less any hesitation
I affirm
"You don't."
*
The room went silent
His eyes fluttered at me
while the other
patiently listened
*
I broke the silence
"You can't present
yourself as secure."
"You just are."
*
"Are what?"
*
The third voice
chimes in
with sass that
shatters glass
"SECURE."
*
While many are fooled
at believing someone is secure
from what they show the world
*
You can't fool
the secure person
who once carried
the same wound
