Secrets of the Evergreen

mighty, massive, strong, and ancient

By Willow CindersPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

Today a strange mist rolls in,

early spring rain has brought low-hanging clouds

that creep in among the pines.

Instead of a dreary mask that covers all from sight,

this fog flows like phantoms through the trees,

filling the empty spaces with stark white,

highlighting each spruce's haunting silhouette.

Turning the once bright and cheerful greenery

into a very real, very frightful crowd of towering figures.

I realize I am in a valley surrounded on all sides,

overtaken by a wood with depths so wild and dark

that I can only imagine what lies within.

They will have secrets for another thousand years,

unexplored and mysterious,

and here I am,

my life just a blink in time,

humbled by the ancient forest's awesome presence.
