Searching for Truth
Looking back and forth along the road of life,
One can only imagine love’s depth and height.
From morning’s sunrise filled with promise,
To evening’s kiss goodbye, I wouldn’t miss.
It’s a word that many use again and again,
Whether with family or an acquaintance or just a friend.
But is there any substance to their greetings,
One that’s brief or hurried, a one-time meeting.
Many use the word to convey how they feel,
But chances are for some it’s not really real.
Some chant or sing hoping to expose their inner self,
Yet, all I’ve found is an empty glass looking for wealth.
What is one to think when searching this earth,
For that one person who is genuine and not a curse.
Gone are love’s true friendships we’ve all known before,
Where true hearts have exchanged secrets heretofore.
Was it just for the reward of monetary gain,
Many have sought after more so than fame.
Alas, you who’ve wanted more than I could give,
Haven’t known a simple truth nor have you lived.
For the truth isn’t held in the palm of someone’s hand,
It isn’t sold or bought or bartered throughout the land.
It’s a word, a thought, a feeling if you will,
That lives within hearts and is shared by some still.
It walks the empty roads, the less traveled now I’m told,
Searching for the lonely, those who’ve grown old.
It looks into the dark recesses to find those abandoned,
To give them hope, showing them, they are no longer shunned.
And having found those who accept the facts and believe,
Love covers them with blankets that it only can weave.
A simple fabric, nothing elaborate nor expensive as some boast,
It binds hearts and souls and lives around the world, coast to coast.
