Scissors and Trims to Suit All My Whims
So Many Ways to Use My Fiskers
By Pamela VoitPublished 5 years ago • 3 min read

- It started with yarn when I knitted a sweater,
- at the age of seven I could only get better.
- I cut paper for hours to make paper flowers
- but I have to say I gave most away.
- When becoming a Mom I learned to crochet
- and I crocheted a sweater in one single day (for a baby).
- I've cut yards of cloth through five decades of time,
- there's hundreds of projects that I'd have to rhyme.
- Clothes, draperies and toys both for girls and for boys,
- I've sewn up a greenhouse and things small as a mouse.
- The list would go on that's how many their are,
- I've even upholstered our old antique car.
- I've trimmed up my garden and cut my own hair
- and in every instance my Fiskers were there.
- So now let's get started, I've a long way to go,
- to reach six hundred words, lets get on with the show.
- This little dress seemed to take me forever,
- lucky for me we had inclement weather.
- I sewed the embroidery and gave it a press,
- then laid out the pattern and cut out the dress.
- A long time ago a family of four,
- were stressed out and broken but happy before.
- Three of them moved and one came to my door,
- a sad angry face is all she ever wore.
- One day I decided a craft was in order,
- when it comes to supplies I am kind of a hoarder.
- I brought out some scissors, picked things from my shelf
- and she wore a smile in spite of herself.
- We cut carboard for snow because we all know,
- that penguins get silly when they can be chilly.
- We cut felt to make hats and painted them twice,
- gave them candy cane skates just to skate on the ice.
- They had gingerbread cookies and Christmas trees too,
- we sprinkled down snowflakes and then we were through.
- I created this stocking for one special boy,
- my only great grandson who fills me with joy.
- It took me some time to build the design
- and I am quite proud to say that it's mine.
- I made towels for grandkids of my cousin Christine,
- two are just kiddos and one is a tween.
- I was her fairy godmother, Katrina by name
- and she found dimes and pennies whenever I came.
- She was my favorite cousin, t'was easy to share,
- she would pick up her pillow and coins would be there.
- The art of Scherenschnitte pronounce if you dare,
- you draw out a pattern and cut it with care.
- You sew them together then press them apart,
- it's a bit complicated but a wonderful art.
- At Christmas they stand atop lit angel hair,
- I've had them for years I hope they never tear.
- This table topper is made out of wool,
- I cut tiny pieces 'til the oval was full.
- I tacked them down gently as much as was able,
- then cut matching fabric to cover the table.
- Put my stories to print then I sewed up the pages,
- then trimmed up the threads, hope they hold up for ages.
- The cute little critters are used in decor,
- just some more examples of course there are more.
- The quilt I designed, my grand daughter in mind,
- she's someone I'm willing to give of my time.
- Alice in Wonderland that is the theme,
- it's like a collage or so it would seem.
- Pen and ink drawings and Johnny Depp too,
- so many ideas gave me so much to do.
- So coming from me, I hope you can see,
- just how very hard just one subject would be.
- I've cut fabric and cardboard, paper and tin,
- copper and plastic and wood that was thin.
- Yarn of all kinds and styrofoam too,
- very few crafts that I wouldn't do.
- There's one final photo that I want to share,
- it's some of my Fiskers I've laid on a stair.
- Now it's time to close my story in rhyme,
- the crafts that I do, when I have the time.
