Scene from a Coffee Shop

If you pay attention, a lot of things happen at the coffee shop.

By Dean TraylorPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

Three girls on their mini machines.

Nobody talks

while they scroll the screens.

The e-bike crew storms on through.

Barista not having it,

and orders the middle-schoolers to leave.

Crazy Karen at the counter screaming

she wants the restroom.

But the barista says “No! Must buy drink first.”

Two wannabe writers

bemoan not being published

as their laptop screen remains bare.

The homeless man in the corner

laughs about something

only he can see and hear.

Lady pushes in a stroller.

But surprise!

Her designer puppy plays inside.

A Mommy and Daddy,

inked up, galore,

get a frozen drink for their toddler son.

Surfer girls enter

and make a scene

with what little they wear.

The studious students

keep on studying,

allowing nothing in their way.

Soon, I hear my name,

and I stroll past them

to get my cup of coffee.
