A Silent Reminder, A Piece of your Life

They lighten in color as time goes by

A lesson learned, once from a temporary high

They stay on your skin, a silent reminder of pain from the past

They show you how resilient the skin we are made of, a new layer grows stronger than the last

Some are presented with stories, battles scars proudly given a name

Others self-inflicted, strategically hidden, worries built over shame

Inner scars, they heal as well

Emotional battles, yet it's sometimes hard to tell

They also get lighter, a silent reminder of times in the dark

Pain that goes to your heart, forever leaving it's mark

Still, it is a piece of your life, something conquered and met

A sign of pain overcome, lest your forget
