Scapegoat-Husband
"I married you to get out from under my parents..."

"I married you to get out from under my parents."
To say my heart breaks every time I think of these words is an understatement.
How could someone be so selfish?
I remember wondering..."Why did she marry me?"
I knew it wasn't because I was rich because I wasn't.
I knew it wasn't because I was extremely handsome because I'm not.
I knew it wasn't because I had a big house or a nice car because I didn't.
I knew it wasn't because I had a well-established career because I didn't have that either.
Year after year, it became clear that she didn't love me.
Now, nearly ten years later...
I know...
It was to get "out from under" her parents.
Ironically, they lived right next door in a fifth wheel camper.

The way you closed it with that ironic twist about the camper? Brutally poetic—it lingers.
How tragic! Some people are to be pitied! What a blessing it is to be loved & accepted, quirks & all… they make life more intriguing.
This is utterly heartbreaking! Such cruel, cold words.
Sounds like you're well rid of her then, sorry to say. Highly emotive piece!
