say/seɪ/verb it/ɪt/pronoun

poem/ˈpəʊɪm/ noun writing in which the act of expressing feelings and ideas is given an appropriate degree of intensity by patricular attention to diction, rhythm and imagery. Oh and often they rhyme too. But this doesn't. For the most part. - was going to have this as a subtitle

//Remember that there will be some days when the words will stay hidden like immigrants in a little boat, fighting for survival, waiting full of hope that the tide will give and dry land will offer safety

Remember too there will be some days when the waters are far too rough and choppy and the words will drown, and be swallowed into the vast abyss like a Maelström

Remember there will be those days when you're firing all cylinders before you even reach for your pen, paper or device

one idea will fall into another, creating a cacophony of chaotic energy, like the constant mortar fire in those far-off places we hear about in the news, but with a greater emphasis on supercharged creativity, than death-dealing destruction

the stories that you don't just want to tell, no those that you need to tell, like the press when they choose to cover Taylor than Darfur or the other real issues

the key, you see, is to write, without let-up, never give up, and if it hurts to say the words that need to come forth, let them come forth, feel that pain, feel those razor slashes at your chest, feel the burn of the acid building and never stop

some days, the words are for the stories that need to be told, others help you bring a little magic into the world, the brightest light to shine in the darkest days

the sacred days when your pen is mightier and sharper than any sword forged and those words will call you out and demand they be shared in all their raw and untampered beauty

the stories you tell, the words you use, is the magic you create

on those days, momentary contentment awaits like asylum seekers who finds a reprieve from the upheaval in their war-torn lands.\\

dreams and aspirations

it's—up to you

better let it out

than keep

the words

that need to be said—locked up

so, say it loud and say it proud

Author's Notes: So, sometimes I wish I could just write normal-ass poetry. haha. Then I come to my senses. This is a riff off two older poems, of which I will provide links below. Please check them out, if you want, or take this as a standalone. It works either way. Also, yes, I spy a part of the subtitle that should have been removed pre-publishing. I'm not going to remove it though.

There's plenty of normal poetry, the world needs Paul poetry! Thought you were just being a little extra quirky with the subtitle. Really loved "some days, the words are for the stories that need to be told, others help you bring a little magic into the world, the brightest light to shine in the darkest days"

I was so confused by “was going to have this for a subtitle”.. just Paul being irreverent I thought and then…yeah anyway. This line was one of my favourite’s, “Remember there will be those days when you're firing all cylinders before you even reach for your pen, paper or device” like that a lot and wish for it too! Also there was a line about pounding the imposter! And I definitely felt that after just reading M Combs poem and your latest! 😄

I need more of these days "the sacred days when your pen is mightier and sharper than any sword forged and those words will call you out and demand they be shared in all their raw and untampered beauty," and less where the pen runs out of the tip of the sword snaps off. Great work, buddy. You make it seem so easy.

Rachel and Judey describe it rally well as rap poetry. You may have started a new form of poetry, Paul. Don't change; we need your quirky take on destroy and life.

I agree with what you have written. Good job.

Oh I love this, particularly the 'words you use is the magic you create' line... but there's so much that's good in here!! GREAT STUFF!!

  • Rachel Deemingabout a year ago

I agree with Judey. It has a rap-like quality, staccato word battering. Hey, can I ask you something? Do you know why the Leaderboard has been taken down? I never got back to read your comments on it and now it's disappeared. Poof!

Haha, what is normal poetry, I wonder? If you write it and say it's poetry, that's what it will be...

Don't you dare ever write normal poetry! I love this!

And this, Paul will give me the reason to write tomorrow! Beautiful!

    Another fabulous one Paul ✍️🏆🏆🏆🏆♦️

Why oh Why don't you record things like these? In my mind the italics are somewhat beatbox with a hurried and heavy rhythm that offset the measured and stately poetry.

This piece is electrifying—a battle cry for creativity and self-expression! It’s a reminder that words have power, that storytelling is both catharsis and rebellion.Bravo for embracing the chaos and crafting something so unapologetically real!

Inspiring and quite an eclectically entertaining style. Well done Paul.
