Save the World’s Environment Oh Afghanistan! 10/11/2023

When I was little

Though not very little,

The pictures I saw of Afghanistan

Were of war mountains,

With Afghan peoples on one side

And mean looking people on other side,

Locked in bloodletting ride.

Then, my mind tagged in a staged Afghan land,

With its changing seasons,

That were depicted as so treacherous,

Its people equally painted as so murderous.

With this Afghan history stained as out of decent sight,

Myself echoed prayers that the ascent mountains might,

For Afghanistan provide a rise, embrace the light.

Yet even with the shifting shadows of ethnic war,

The rifting strife pierces, seems forevermore,

Yet, Afghanistan mountains are beautiful,

The arid fields, said to be seeds of drunkenness, are beautiful.

And the Afghani people are beautiful.

But listen to the cries of women denied,

In pursuit of education defied,

In plead against life defiled,

Though nobody seems to fathom this,

The symphony of women’s voices says this.

Yet, even amid the ruins of lives trimmed,

Careers and ventures so thinned,

Infrastructure desolate and crumbled,

I, we, beseech the Afghan nation to stand tall.

Speak louder from the deepest scars,

Walk together with resilient hearts,

Oh, Afghanistan, let the healing start.

We desire bridges of hope span the mountains,

We implore, the historic caves be minus blood stains,

Instead be bequeathed to the children, humbly.

Let gardens bloom, with food, to fondle Kabul, proudly.

In this way, refuge for hope emerges, banishing the gloom.

In this way, strength to mend surges, to let harmony blossom.
