I was just there
where the sand gets hot
and longs for feet to kick it toward
the water
and the water never apologizes
for being too big
or too small
or too cold
or too salty
it carries the sand on the tide
part gravity
part magic
that single grain of sand
that started the day on the dock
makes it's way to the sea
to the surface
of a bubble
in a wave
light above
light below
swirling
breaking through water
it's caught in the fragment of a shell
in the bathing suit of a toddler
on the board of a surfer
and makes it's way back home
