Sacred Money by Writing

It's paltry sum, but very satisfying

Writing field is notorious,

for paying peanuts,

But the few dollars I scrape,

feels like sacred money.

I have earned it,

by sharing knowledge,

wisdom to overcome challenges.

On the contrary,

an uncle sold liquor,

without a license,

he made people sick,

and in his amassed opulence,

gave dowry to his lazy daughters,

built temples too,

all show off,

to convince people,

see my material growth!

I cannot imagine,

such sinful life,

I earn few dollars by writing,

but it feels clean.

I don’t even need,

to please any God,

because I know,

I am blessed,

by a clean conscience.

No baggage of guilt,

on the shoulders,

is a richness, few appreciate.

  • The things some people do and they lengths they go to for money irks me so much. Loved your poem!

Like lots of your poems, this one really resonated with me. There's something powerful about earning a little in an honest way.
