Ruskie The Raccoon-Moral Reflection
As Presented In 'The Soldiers' Arts Academy International Poetry Competition' (2022)

Ruskie The Raccoon
Moral Reflection
By Marc O’Brien
Retired United States Calvary Therapeutic Division
Ruskie the raccoon
Saw his reflection in the moon
Who am I?
A patriotic guy?
Or someone living a moralistic challenging lie
In space Ruskie wears blue and yellow
Such a diplomatic fellow
Back on earth
Looking for life important worth
Ruskie salutes the red, white, and blue
Colors believed to be honest and true
Eyes protected by a predator mask
Ruskie performs the military task
Doing what the commander asks
On the battlefield
Performing the agreed service deal
Sees a child
Been walking for a mile
“I am all alone
Far from home,”
The youngster said
Knowing parents are dead
(2)
When they hid under a theater seat
Shelling popcorn provided the heat
They said it was only a movie
About a beast and a beauty
But when they changed the reel
Emotions started to squeal
Realizing injuries were not going to heal
Ruskie listened
Seeing the other side to the strategic mission
“I apologize
I was told a bunch of lies”
Ruskie confessed
Problem addressed
Went to shake his hand
And the child continued the plan
Taking out a knife
That ended Ruskie’s life
