I'm listening to the people complaining
about how a war was won and how it was lost.
And I can see a vision oh so clearly,
John Boy is lying in a gutter in the sun.
- - " - -
I'm thinking about the days gone past
And the way that things used to be
People seem to stop and stare
At realities they don't understand.
- - " - -
A mother cries for her lost son,
A sister lost a brother, too,
A wife has no husband now
He's there lying in the gutter in the sun.
- - " - -
A war they want no part of,
a life they cannot change,
A village left in ruins,
There is only one thing to be done:
Run for your life,
Keep running with all your might,
Run for life,
Keep running toward that light,
Run for life,
Keep running; it's not your fight.

Till next time,

And sadly, those in Gaza have no where to run. We can only hope one day there will be peace - I watch ducks floating calmly in little groups and no fighting and deer walking around, no fighting….
So enjoyable to read ♦️♦️♦️
Wow, Sir! This poem is so gripping and thought-provoking. The imagery is intense, and the raw emotions you capture—especially the grief and futility of war—really hit home. The repeated plea to "Run for life" is powerful and leaves a lasting impact. 🤝
I am glad that my piece inspired you to finish tt because it's exceptional! love how you bring down the often universally accepted existence of war to the very real and potential losses for individuals! powerful poem, Calvin, well done!
