Life is like a box of chocolates
A free verse plea for a better place
Life is like a box of chocolates
Some are light and some are dark.
We spend all year inventing excuses,
But now it’s time for us to share,
What truly matters and about what we care.
So on this day marked in December,
Let us all try to remember,
Is there a chance that we can see
How the world is meant to be?
Let’s remember on this day,
All these things I hope and pray:
Love
Hope
Peace
Respect
Decency
Equality
Humility
Forgiveness
Can we get the world to change,
Aren’t these the gifts we should exchange?
So to all you people in high places,
Forget about your heirs and graces,
No one wants this world to end,
So why can’t you just all be friends?

Till next time,
Calvin
[Author's note: My first attempt at a free verse poem, but even then I have to have some rhyme. I was also playing around with the formatting of the things that matter. I would love to know what you think.]

Beautiful
What a hopeful and inspiring poem
No one wants this world to end, So why can’t you just all be friends?" These are the most friendly and pure lines I've ever read in 2024 ❤ You did great with the free verse 😃 I know that rhyme part is so relatable... Even when I write free verse; I do the same 😉 And the format? Spot on✨
