Royal in Rags, Ruthless in Riches
Free Verse

She walks, she glides? No, she floats.
Spits on the King, then gives bread to the paupers.
Refuses the master and shacks up with a slave.
Dismisses the prissy and lifts a soul out of the gutter.
Enters a room full of snakes, charms ‘em all, then leaves with the loot, and gives back to the hood.
Tells corporate pay me, and don’t be late, but to the homies, don’t worry, hold that, I got that, naw-naw, here… take that.
Disses the false preacher, reprimands the false teacher, then shows love to the hoodlums.
Leaves the party early but posts up at the kickback.
Hardly speaks to the C-Suite but is a whole chatterbox with the janitor.
Speed reads through the books of the educated but sits at the feet of a servant.
Picks over the chef's choice but chows down in a villager’s hut and extends her tongue to lick the pot they boiled the water in to purify.
Sits unamused at Shakespeare theatre but gives standing ovations to the thespian street performers.
Unimpressed and unbothered seem to be her only moods, but folks from around the way say she's a character.
Who is she? I bet you wanna know, but since you don’t, that’s Dr. EAU to you.
