Roses are red

And violets are blue. But I don’t want any flowers from you.

I don’t want your beautiful flowers

You can keep those fancy rings

I don’t want flowing dresses and expensive handbags

Those branded fashion of status and things

That blind so many from the truth

Give me more of the long haul drive

Quietly moving through the passing cars

Headlights bleeding on the rain soaked motorway

As I slept so soundly in your care

Give me more of that teasing smile

As you wash and dry the dinner from our plates

Or that look just for me

That skips my heart free from my chest

Give me moments bathed in sunlight

As we walk along some seaside town

My small hand engulfed in yours

stuffed warm and home in your jacket pocket

I don’t want some emerald ring

That glitters light so green and cold

I just want time to see our laughter

on my lined face and yours

And the years on our unsteady feet

Until we say goodbye for the last time.

Let’s not suffer in silence. Let’s use our words. Let them drip from the screen to move our hearts, challenge our minds, and enrich our time. Here are mine. Really looking forward to reading what others have to say.
