Rose in Harlem

Free Verse

In my darkest days, love calls out to me, whispering sacred holy incantations till my soul rises from the ashes reborn anew.

(switch the flow)

I open my eyes, stare my enemy down with a sister girl kink in my neck, declaring, I know you thought I died, but I rise like my God, so go ahead and multiply, I’ll renew a thousand times before I ever die.

(switch the flow)

If you’re praying for my downfall, your knees will never leave the ground.

(swift the flow)

I don’t care if I’m losin’, I’m still gonna fight back.

(switch the flow)

Treading rocky waters steadily, faith is my anchor.

(switch the flow)

Just when I think I’m going down, Jesus lifts me up.

(switch the flow)

Lucifer, you’re defeated, under my heel.

(switch the flow)

If you’re praying for my downfall, your knees will never leave the ground.

(switch the flow)

Flower of the concrete, I bloom despite the odds.

(switch the flow)

You step all the time, but today you stop and admire me.

(switch the flow)

I open my eyes, stare my enemy down with a sister girl kink in my neck, declaring, I know you thought I died, but I rise like my God, so go ahead and multiply, I’ll renew a thousand times before I ever die.
