Rise Above the Storm

My call to humanity. Cause a ripple. Make waves of kindness. Be the change. Bring the light.

I've got something to say and I'll say it with ease.

The days of biting my tongue nearly killed me like some unnamable disease.

I'm not here to appease.

'Cause, it's not my job to please.

Society will have you censor,

Squash what's in your head.

They'll have you surrender,

Long before the day you're dead.

-

Speak your mind.

It's the only thing that will set you free.

Releasing those inhibitions,

Do not let them bring you to your knees.

The restrictions of societies,

They once took ahold of me.

They'll kill the spirit inside

I've watched as they've tried

It's all part of the divide,

And conquer, I've defied.

-

Managed to crush my identity

Caused a divide between you and me.

The lies they'd have us believe,

That we're not the same?

That we should only be judged from whence we came?

If you ask me, their whole political circus is pretty f*cking lame.

-

If we fall into their trap then we'll all be to blame.

They pollute, murder, and maim.

It's all a part of their ultimate game,

Someday everyone will know them all by name.

Until then, they swear there's truth in their claim.

That we seek to defame.

History will show that was never the aim.

Please understand: The citizens are not their government. They are NOT the ones to blame.

-

Hear me out

I hope you'll listen

This world of ours?

It's about to go through another massive transition.

Putin's still miffed that the USSR split like nuclear fission.

He's after Zelenskyy, on a personal mission.

He's the hero according to his rendition.

-

Every claim should be viewed with the utmost suspicion.

Trying to block Ukraine's NATO admission.

This is one for the books.

Yeah, it's being orchestrated by a whole bunch of crooks.

It's more complicated than it first looks.

-

We need to be in this together.

What's coming will drive many to the end of their tether.

It's up to us to decide whether:

We will stand by those who are oppressed,

By those we so detest.

We must try our collective best.

Support one another, that's my only behest.

Because trust me, this whole situation is the ultimate test.

-

Will we cower in shadow and expect protection from a man in a suit?

Do you think their resolve to do the right thing is absolute?

We must be resolute.

Do the words that I'm saying even begin to compute?

-

This goes far beyond the implied dispute.

Where is the peace for humanity? Can we take an alternate route?

Maybe what they need is to sit down and pass the damn zoot.

Nah, I'm not trying to be cute.

The notion is just more appealing than the prospect of hearing the marching of another boot.

-

When refugees are knocking upon your door

The only response you need is to utter "Yeah, sure!"

We are one and the same,

Regardless of name.

I'll say it again: The people are not their government. They are NOT the ones to blame.

-

If we stay silent instead of loudly proclaim,

"Not in our name!"

This isn't just about Ukraine!

Though they are not alone in their pain.

I'm not sure you know: Palestine, Syria, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq.

Why is someone somewhere always under attack?

Citizens of the world getting stabbed in the back.

By politicians, world leaders, who don't care if you fall in the crack.

Nothing but a bunch of vicious old quacks.

-

They'll always remain.

In power,

In control,

In partnership,

Every single one steering this giant warship.

They'll send every soldier into the unknown.

Into foreign lands, they're flown.

Yet the invisible killers behind the drone,

Are safely kept at home, upon their throne.

When will the staggering body count be known?

Will their identities ever be shown?

-

The soldiers are tasked with emptying each clip.

Missiles onscreen provide a tiny blip.

Bombs blow, buildings crumble, vehicles flip,

Families blown,

Losing everyone, everything they own.

Death tolls and endless casualties are the cornerstone.

These realities of war are so well-known.

-

Terror feeds the machine

Mainstream media's ultimate dream

The higher the casualties,

The more fodder for their tickers,

Talking heads on the nightly news bicker,

Which oligarch, dictator, monarch, royal, prime minister or president are we to detest this week?

The reach of their vitriol is unspeak-

Able-bodied men, women,

Sent to die

How many more families will be left behind?

Left to cry?

Left to try-

Try to rebuild,

To move on.

To stay strong.

Because if they stay true to form?

We're going to need it to survive this impending nuclear storm.

-

So stand by one another.

Lift up that single mother

Support your struggling brother.

Let's be an anomaly

Understand that we are part of one large family.

It's called humanity.

We are not part of the monopoly, the ogliopoly,

The citizens of the world are nothing but a commodity

To submit to their choice.

They were never truly representatives of our voice.

So, let's make this a multiple-choice.

-

Enough is enough

Damn, we all know these times are rough.

We've gotta be tough.

If we rise together, we can call their damn bluff.

This was off the cuff

And I'm sure plenty will come out in rebuff.

But I stand by my stuff,

I just hope it's not too late. That we can still do enough.

-

We need to stand by the oppressed everywhere

Tell the depressed, that we will be there.

This world isn't fair,

But don't think I don't care.

It's time to revive.

Time to survive.

To never allow another humanitarian nosedive.

So, let us all strive,

Let's flourish and thrive.

I'm upping the drive

To keep our fellow humans alive.

It's time to keep it live,

But not with ammunition,

We'll no longer feed their war ambition.
