In my Facebook writing group, we write a Poem a Day in February (PaDiF). It has been great and a few poetry books have come out of the group recently. We started 8 years ago, at about this time of year. This year two writers wrote poetry books that were published right after February 2024.

Poetry books by Jennifer Sawatzky and Evelyn Fielding

Jennifer loves to write and is a winner of contests in February regularly. Evelyn has a Masters degree in Poetry and helps us to judge contest participants occasionally.

Then most years I have given the winners of contests their poetry in a book that I put together and gift to them for winning or placing.

Last year it was suggested that we write rhymes every 8th of the month, so we started. I thought that was a great idea and I would continue it until it is thwarted.

The idea was to rhyme everything we post. That can be more difficult than you would think, and as the host, I can easily run out of things to say and not post as I am toast.

We have had some fun conversations on this day however and I look forward to it every month. Of course, some writers prefer rhyming, like me so we will have so much fun with rhyme in August on the 8th.

We usually start the day with something like the following:

August eighth is here

Oh Dear

Already? Nearly the end

of summer. Too soon and

It went way too fast

It didn't last

And it is time

To rhyme

Let's see

What you got heehee

Hoping for some

Thing dumb

For a few chuckles

I won't do heckles

For you

No Boo

It's important to laugh

Sometimes in the bath

Anytime really works

Maybe a few twerks

A dance is good

And we should

sing along

With a healing song

We can't go wrong

Laughing and snorting

Crying and sorting

All our healing ways today

And everyday

Ok, time to play

On this Thursday ❤️

~

And a response from a regular:

Good morning, by Carol Verant Arola

Good morning

Today came without warning!

I wasn’t expecting it so soon.

The speed made me swoon.

Just like the summer - gone way too soon.

August 8 is already here.

I’m getting ready to spread some cheer.

We’re headed to a resort for a week.

Peace and solitude are what we seek.

HA! Kids and grandkids will join us there.

Oh my - fun things happening everywhere!

I’ll try again - later today,

To rhyme a little more -

Be assured I’ll rhyme on my way to the store!! Hugs to you and everyone!

Enjoy the day it has just begun. 🤭🤭✌🏻
