Rhubarb

short story murder

By Anairda OchoaPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

“Rhubarb might bake up all kinds of delicious sweets, but the leaves are poisonous, causing breathing trouble, seizures, kidney failure, and in some cases, death” (Sienna Livermore and Hannah Doolin, 2017.)

The rhubarb leaf murdered her.

Suddenly the leaves began expanding and multiplying, devouring everything in their way, leaving space for nothing. They swallowed the light out of every corner. The leaves became her world.

Slowly they drew in closer to her body, filling in every space of air. Slowly they began suffocating her.

She gasped for air, trying to find breath, but the leaves swung into her mouth and slithered down her throat, making their way into her kidney.

The leaves devoured her organ. They masticated every inch of meat and bone in their path.

Little Shop of Horrors from the inside out.

Those are the dangers of loving rhubarb.
