Reuse

Throw Away

By River B.Published 3 years ago 1 min read

It was when you picked up those old words.

Gave them to me again.

Squinted when I did.

You didn't know me but I knew you.

Knew you more

Than I knew friendship.

Oh, don't be so hurt.

Nothing compares and yet I say I'm doing this for you.

I vowed never to lie again and yet

I said I was going to bed then ran.

I know only so many phrases

in this world.

And some are bound to hurt.

It was when I studied your eyes but you never knew

the color of mine.

When I memorized your stories and you never

gave me a chance.

Saying you hurt me first and you saying

you didn't know what you were doing.

And you didn't.

But now I don't care.

Because you should have.

And now I do,

And so I ran.

I'm a worm.

Going through the dirt.

Many things I leave behind,

but I have a collection in my mind

of things that make me smile.
