Resilience

In life we go from strength to strength. Colours are often used to represent that transition.

I travelled 2,108 miles alone on whim,

to electric slide through streets of gold.

See, I’ve always had this fire within that

beckoned me to a grand future untold.

This fire burned with an emerald glow

ripe with inexperience bright and bold.

It’s hard looking back, way back when

as life’s lessons started to blossom and unfold.

My emerald glow attempted to dim,

blacked in ashes and growing cold.

Sputtering, flickering, emerging in an amber

inside my heart somehow resilience took hold.

In the aftermath of following this divergent path,

this girl now a woman emerged shaped in a defiant mould.
