Removing Romance II
Romance is such a taxing endeavor, and my heart has paid its dues.
there's nothing appealing about the empty hands romance holds out in front of me
nothing i can stand in the present,
and no hope in what the future is revealing‐
there's no taking back what my past is still stealing
i hate how i have to say how much i hate feeling these feelings,
i'm the farthest from peace I've ever been‐
i'd rather feel not at all
just let me be numb
just let me be done
fall in love, i'd rather not
i'd rather fall ill‐
if cupid points his arrow at me i hope he shoots to kill‐
i try my hardest not to fall in love
i try not to take back all I've given up
but endless are the passions of the broken hearted
and endless are the brushstrokes of a hopelessly romantic artist
appalling are the details i wish i could neglect
calling on chance is more like calling on collect,
and my heart has paid that toll‐
i stand at the well wishing to remove the romance,
but death is merely stalling for time,
i'd rather not wait‐
unless something other than rain falls from the sky,
i have nothing to leave at stake,
other than broken promises and regret i've come to collect
and the ashes of hope that rest at the base of the stake
there's nothing left to burn
no treasure left,
and nothing left in my chest‐
i only wish i could burn the empty hands romance continues to hold out in front of me
i only almost hate how i have to say i'm removing romance,
for all that romance, removed from me

About the Creator
Josh Morgan
Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
