Reminiscence

Goodbye

I read your message across the screen

Once

Twice

Three times

Trying to understand what you mean

For months you’ve been silent

For months you’ve been distant

And I could not discern why

But now I know

As the words leap off the screen

And slap me in the face

With the cold understanding

A harsh reality

In the face of my ignorance

I cannot believe you are really gone

And I refuse to lose hope

That one day you will be back

Whether someday soon

Or someday in the distance

One year

Two years

Three years

But I know you never will

Because you are gone

And that is okay

Because I will always find peace

In your reminiscence.
