Reminiscence
A message from the future
This is a message for my younger self
who cried a sea of tears.
Do not be afraid of what the future holds
or of losing all you hold dear.
The things that truly matter
come freely,
they can never be taken away.
It is your choice who you want to be,
it is you who chooses the way.
And when you are given
the beloved watch,
that last gift on your
seventeenth birthday,
know it will be a keepsake in years to come
to remind you that
everything was okay.
Your confidence will grow
as you discover yourself,
do not be in a hurry to change,
or please those who
would change you
to suit themselves,
and your values and beliefs rearrange.
You are strong,
talented and powerful,
so full of dreams beyond price.
Do not cast them off
like worn out clothes,
take no heed of
the mundane advice.
And when the day comes
and you are faced with the choice
of life or death to decide,
have courage
and do not take
the easy way out,
listen to the small voice inside.
Know there are many
lives in this lifetime
that you have yet to perceive,
so much happiness to
experience and share,
an abundance of joy to receive.
So I write this for love,
for you my younger self
to share all the days I have known,
to tell you what you
needed to hear back then,
and let you know
you were never alone.
