Remembering the Fruit Trees

A nostalgic trip

By Seema PatelPublished 6 months ago 1 min read
Orange tree in my childhood backyard @Seema

It was humble childhood,

a rural India kid

with limited privileges,

but we had a big backyard

an opulent orchard.

Guava, mango, custard apple,

lychee, pomegranate, rose apple,

papaya, orange, java plum,

lemon, sapote, date palm.

Year-round, something ripening

for munching, relishing.

Winter evenings, oranges pickings,

nostalgia of the blessings!

Now and immigrant,

far from that past.

The trees are old and dying,

house abandoned, nobody staying,

but the memory lingers,

When I eat those fruits,

for a moment, eyes closed,

I am under those tree, nostalgia quenched.

What a delicious orchard you had back then. I had apple and cherry trees at my aunt's house and climbing those trees and eating the fruits. Thanks for sharing your memory and letting me remember one of mine. Good job.

It would be amazing having all those fruits growing in your own backyard.
