Beach Day

To soak it all, and to feel tiny

We live close to Pacific beaches,

a conscious decision,

to access the ocean often,

and feel tiny, in front of its magnificence.

Today, we have a plan,

to go with the kids, spend the afternoon.

It’s not only about sitting on the shore

watching the waves, but so much more.

To indulge in mindfulness,

to savor serendipity happiness.

To pick shells and pebbles,

or whatever the ocean tosses at us.

like a doll shoe, driftwood, clams.

To teach the children,

to make sandcastles, show tidepools,

to see the changes after tsunami.

As we’re excited for the beach trip,

all past memories come flooding back,

how it has inspired in endless ways.

Velella, Sea lion, dolphins,

tuna crab, Garibaldi fish, sea urchins,

mackerels, gulls, and pelicans.

Eager to feed the senses,

by the beach day essence.

There's nothing better than a day at the beach for all things you mentioned. I have enjoyed beaches along the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Good job.

  • The beach is always so blissful. Loved your poem and photo
