Regrets

A misunderstanding

By Vicente VasquezPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I'm sorry I misunderstood

and thought, and hoped, and prayed you could

be more than you or I could be

or that you'd spend your time with me

for everything we almost were

we have to part and that's the catch

how close we were to being more

how well we know our souls would match

and maybe in another time

a world where different reasons rhyme

where we ignore our daily strife

and try to live a happy life

the two of us could meet once more

and bravely knock on heaven's door

instead of doing what was right

what if I'd only been a man

reached out to grab you by the hand

and forged new memories of that night

it's scary when the feelings swirl

and we all know that life's not long

so even knowing it'd be wrong

I wish that I had kissed the girl

heartbreak
