Refugee

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 6 months ago 1 min read

Verse]

I've stopped fighting the hatred,

I've laid my weapons down,

The battles ain’t worth it,

not the way things are going down

Leaders shouting lies

stirring up the crowd,

The air has grown so heavy,

the silence too loud.

I left the country and crossed the sea,

I'm A stranger here, but I feel free.

Though no papers say it, it's very plain to see

I’m a refugee, yeah, a refugee.

I'm a refugee

I traded wide open fields for a skyline so gray,

Where folks don’t ask why you’ve come this way.

No flags to wave, no borders to defend,

Just hoping this broken heart can mend.

[Prechorus]

I didn’t pack much, just what I could bear,

The weight of leaving’s heavy everywhere.

I left the country and crossed the sea,

I'm A stranger here, but I feel free.

Though no papers say it, it's very plain to see

I’m a refugee, yeah, a refugee.

I'm a refugee.

The wind carries whispers of the place I knew,

But I can’t go back, not after what I’ve been through.

The lines they draw can’t cage my soul,

I’m searching for a life where I feel whole.

Chorus]

I left the country and crossed the sea,

I'm A stranger here, but I feel free.

Though no papers say it, it's very plain to see

I’m a refugee, yeah, a refugee.

I'm a refugee

I'm a refugee
