Refracting Love

A Villanelle

By Kerry MohnikePublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Seafoam green, translucent in the night,

moonlight caps the breaking waves.

Perhaps the world will make it right

Purple clouds bring rain-soaked strife.

Children watch us break the rules

Seafoam green, translucent in the light

Songs of fabled sirens pierce the night

while pirate ships' black flags unfurl

Perhaps the world will make it right

Golden sunlight lifts the swells

and red rock cod dive deep beneath

Seafoam green, translucent in the light

What began amid the storm, rainbow’s

Love endured, shaping the norms.

Perhaps the world will make it right,

Seafoam green, translucent in the light.
