Red Sun

Entry into the Colour is Pride: True Colours challenge

I watch the setting sun

That rosy ball of flames

Levitating on the horizon

With blazing tongue

Licking the earth...

I wonder sometimes

Where I get this fire inside

That boils my guts

And takes those I love

For another ride

Looking to the sky

My eyes glisten

Ruby red and

Diamond white

And I remember

We are all

Made of the same light

It courses my veins

The warm blood

I depend on like a drug

Heat you and I

Quietly sit by

In the late hours

Smoking our flowers

Listening to

The crackling of wood

A captured glimpse

Of our sun

From long ago

Before the weeks

Pushed us to and fro

Flames keep

Our appetites at bay

Until the freezing night

Ushers another day

Warm embers

Calm my mind

And in the silence

My knotted body unwinds

Time enough to think...

While we wait

For the light to come

I have a funny

Feeling that

We are all one

The red in us

Was once the red

That lives in our sun
