Poetry is the voice of silence,
the stillness that moves all things,
the peaceful presence amidst violence,
the heart’s hidden song when, at last, it sings.
Poetry is an eye beholden to beauty,
the lips speaking what can’t be heard,
the hands given meaning through duty,
the ears interpreting an unspoken word.
Poetry is the coos and cries of a baby,
the aspirations of an old man,
the hope of a love uttering, “Maybe,”
the play of life since time began.
Poetry is the act of giving
pieces of your heart
and finding reasons for living
in what tore it apart.
