Ravenous Dogs
Liberty was first sought by those running from tyranny,
But in one final blow, it was lost, what irony.
After being overtaken by the greed of man,
The light of justice was doused by the floods of man-made scams.
Flights of fantasy, whimsical dreams of the impossible,
Have rewritten volumes of illusions, most unstoppable.
Upon the hearts of once honorable men and women,
Who appears as ravenous dogs using laypeople, offenses inhuman.
Hidden facets of mankind's obsession to rule,
Is nothing that’s saluted or taught in school.
It lurks in the darkest parts of men’s hearts it is true,
To subjugate, to banish, to segregate people anew.
Within the hearts of those in power, those in towers,
The message is to suppress the opinions and make people cower.
But to that, the huddled masses must often recant,
It’s not for the powerful to divide, to revamp.
One stated to give me liberty or give me death,
He shouted it the housetops with perhaps his last breath.
I too must applaud the reveler’s forwardness,
And look for the courage and forget the awkwardness.
For to be free is for all to attain,
And not point fingers or fellow serfs to blame.
It is our own doing if we remain as we are,
Filled with cuts bleeding, and many a scar.
