Rat Race

Chasing

By Noah BaldwinPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 1 min read

Chase another reward.

Clamor and rip at each other

In search of a way to better your own life.

For who’s life matters but your own?

Surely not his or hers.

Other minds that hold no thoughts.

Bend and break in reaching

Towards that desired fable.

The struggle looked on from above

By those who hold the bounty, seeking oblations.

Sacrificed for those who can only dream

So that others may observe and balefully laugh.

Grease spilling from their slough

As countless weary eyes look on.

Licking their bone dry lips,

Thirsty for a fraction of gaiety.

Look forward and resent your lack of content.

Feed your woe with lack of sustenance.

Fuel a rage that will overturn nothing.

For though it is shared, you feel it alone.

For in your plight against avarice,

You have found yourself in rapacity.
