Rare Coin

A Love at First Sight Letter Poem

My Darling Dream,

I came to know you because

People in Los Angeles

Tend to travel their names.

You're a star in the sky

We both see

No matter the miles.

By NASA on Unsplash

I know how, at first glance,

We seem like a one way street.

To you, I know I'm snow in Los Angeles.

I can't stick around there

Or even go there,

So you can't see me

Or ever think about me.

By mk. s on Unsplash

One day my books

Will fall into hands as snowflakes

Like waves against toes in the sand.

Then you'll see me.

I'll be in Los Angeles.

But I want you to know

This faith in me now,

While you're still here,

Not later from only

Your soul in the clouds.

Our distance apart

Keeps the gap from closing.

Both of our styles are like

Flipping heads on the same coin.

More chapters and pages have turned

In your story than mine.

And you may have a quarter million

Next to my quarter and a dime.

By Tim Foster on Unsplash

Will distance still matter

If you knew I'm one in a billion?

What if I'm a rare coin

In your pocket

And you just need

To find that out?

By Tim Bish on Unsplash

What if we both flip as heads

Because we're a rare coin

Worth a fortune,

One with heads

That were accidentally stamped

On both sides when we were made?

By Steve Smith on Unsplash

What if my chapters

Are in your story

And yours are in mine,

Just at different points

In each memoir worthy timeline?

By Anastasia Zhenina on Unsplash

What if my quarter and a dime

Will be a quarter million too in time

When my books fall as those snowflakes

That make my name travel in time?

I know you look

For the hardworker

And the heartworker,

Not millions of dimes.

Money is just usually tied to that,

Tied tight.

Our legacies combined

Are the two heads on that rare coin

Traveling in time.

We land in museums of social change

Lifetime after lifetime.

More hearts will be touched

If we come together in this lifetime.

I think the effect of rare love

Will inspire our mission to multiply.

It may not snow in Los Angeles

But Darling,

Take my word for this

While you're still here:

We are that rare coin.

By Brett Jordan on Unsplash

Please be mine

While we're in the overlap

Of our memoir worthy timelines.

Yours Either Way,

Janice
