RAISED IN A DRAGON’S DEN

By B. A. Lewis

My fingers reached,

For Barbie’s Jeep,

But they were slapped away,

By a look to kill,

The dragon’s daughter,

On the hook until,

I bow my head,

Submit to shame,

Pink and pretty,

Are not my game.

Hot red heat,

Was all there was,

I deserved it,

That’s because,

My mind breathes fire,

Just the same,

Trying to outrun,

The shame.

But not forever,

It caught up,

Burnt me down

And fucked me up.

Broken here,

My heart bleeds black,

Releasing everything,

I held back.

Dragon tears stream,

Down my face,

And the shame is healed,

Without a trace.

Who told me,

It was weak to cry?

I’ve never felt stronger.

Dragons lie.

I nursed my heart,

From black to pink,

And that’s worth sharing,

Don’t you think?

My pockets lined,

With rose quartz crystals,

And rose gold bangles,

I’ve got wrist fulls.

I think I knew,

From the start,

That is colour,

Unlocks the heart.

When love’s set free,

My dear,

So are we.
