Rain

By Mashreka Mahmood

By Mashreka MahmoodPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

You drown out the sound of my head

I never feel more alive and dead,

I lay here thinking about everything that comes to nothing

The dim light of a streetlight burning

At the sheer sound of your droplets I melt

Protected from your wrath in this blanket

My window glass rattles as you hum

You remind me of when I was young.

Through wire net rain

Slides on the glass filling me to the brim

To the brim with the serene calm I only feel when it’s like this

Inside, looking out at the naked trees batting in the howl

Everything familiar covered in a grey cool

No need to be anywhere anytime soon.
