Rain and Roses
Poetic Snapshots

Rain clouds rolling in
Dark billowing plumes
Think I will sit here
On the old wood steps
~~~
In the sycamore
Cardinals gather
Snuggling among leaves
Beaks preening feathers
~~~
Mr. Namon's roses look beautiful~ Silver drops beading on crimson petals

He lived with us a while before passing~ Alone before us, we became his home
~~~
Mother spotted me
On the old wood steps
Daughter getting drenched
Enjoying a flood
~~~
Like telepathy
I can hear her thoughts
Come in out the rain
My Strange WomanChild
~~~
For Mother who raised the Strange WomanChild~ I go inside with wet roses for her
Mr. Namon's roses look beautiful~ Silver drops beading on crimson petals
Loved how the rain feels comforting here, not sad.
Wow. This is such a beautiful poem, absolutely packed with verbal imagery, and in such a short piece you really said a lot about relationships. The Strange WomanChild’s relationship with herself— with her mother, and with the memory of the departed. Her mother’s watchful but not overbearing care and the reciprocated love, of her carrying in a flower for her mother. I also get a sense of self love here, in the narrator calling herself strange but not in a demeaning way. And I think the relationship I like best, out of all of these is her relationship with the earth, not only with the roses and the cardinals, but also with the rain. I think people (myself included) use rain to symbolize sadness all to often in poetry, but I love that here she’s enjoying the rain, and it reminds me of times I’ve stood to sat or walked in the rain and enjoyed it myself. There’s no sense of sadness here— I like that you used the rain to show a sense of peace and even a sense of childlike joy. Wonderful poetry! I’m subscribing just off this :)
Hey D. A bit of nostalgia set in just lately. Your wonderful aura is hanging in the air. Just saying hi. Be blessed. Read this lovely poem again today.
Beautiful 🌹, simply beautiful writing.
This is so beautiful Alexa, you don't write much here I see. Be well and keep singing.
Fabulous inspirational poem!!!❤️❤️💕
Some rich description here in such a short piece, and I particularly liked the line "Daughter getting drenched"- so effective despite its simplicity. Small moments can mean as much as big ones in words:)
Moments of beauty with a pause button. The vision that sees this...wondrous!
Beautiful 😍, I hope you are coming back ?
well written
My dear, dear D. I am just checking on you to see if you have a health update. I am still kicking, just not as high, but kicking nonetheless. I'm praying for good news from you and think of you often.
I love the beautiful mood that you set in this piece! gorgeous work my friend!
Oh, D. this is haunting and beautiful and I have been so busy at work I have missed your beautiful writing. I am always going to stop and see what you have posted!
Gorgeous; the imagery, the layered meanings - I can almost smell the rain and roses. I can feel the love rolling from each line, and honestly I got a little emotional. I've subscribed to you and I can't wait to see what you write next!
Well, that was beautiful. I read it twice and could feel the pleasantries even more. Annnnd I'm jealous of that porch in the title pic. Who wouldn't love to wake up to that every morning. You have endless tricks in that magic word hat of yours. Great work, D! 💖
Oh! I fell so much nostalgia reading about Mr Namon, so glad he was found before leaving, and happy he enjoyed his roses. This is such a wonderful poem, like glimpsing shadows from far down the ages. Now I sit staring into the distant past, mothers all calling our names. This was lovely.
This is stunning. The poem as well as the title and image, it all ties together so perfectly!
Very intense! Fantastic work!
