R U OK 2024
Am I Ever?
I started the day by forgetting my keys
(When I called in Late, they set me at ease)
*
I'm training someone new, why did I ever think I could?
(I've taught things before, and my trainee thinks I'm good)
*
The Walk and Talk falls through, it's just me alone
(But Ruth picks up; we have a chat over the phone)
*
My trainee learns quickly, I remember when I was new
(I tell my brain to shut up, don’t compare the two)
*
I stop at early voting after work, on Saturday I won’t have the time
(Why do people think throwing flyers at me will change my mind?)
*
Pick up dinner on the way to my love; hot dogs and pie
(comfort food and hugs, the day ends on a high)
R U Ok day can be hit or miss for me.
It is good to check in on people, but can feel performative for those who face daily mental health struggles. As you can tell from the first couplet, my RUOK got off to a great start…

Great poem! 🩷 Yeah ... the day can feel very performative and forced, which is a shame. I'm trying to get better at checking in on people on a regular basis. Guess it serves as a good reminder though. 🩷🩷🩷 Hope you're going well! - Always reach out if you need.
Very relatable and an well-penned. Great job, Natasja!
A very familiar day, it seems... Thank you for this!
