Quite Unrequited

By Natasha Burton

By Natasha BurtonPublished 6 years ago 2 min read

To the boy that the girl I love won’t stop talking about.

I am in love with your endearing strobe light flirtations objective.

I have unavoidedly been in love with her for far too long.

Labelling it as close friendship for far too long.

Saying I love you instead of I am in love with you for far too long.

To the boy that the girl I love has hurt and confused repeatedly.

I must apologise for an extent of her contridicting statements.

You see when you love someone you become extensively selfish.

Every second thought she had i built on, centering you as the friend.

When in reality i am the one framed under her heart in a platonic light.

To the boy that the girl I love told he could be enough.

I envy you with all the aggression that i can muster.

However, I have no right to be upset when you had the balls and I didn’t.

It doesn’t matter how much I love her I cannot win her over if i don’t speak up.

But why should i speak up when all she speaks to me about is you.

Maybe thats why i told her to tell you how she feels.

To the boy that the girl I love smiles at even when hes being mean.

If you don’t fucking relish in every moment you have with her I swear to god.

Because i did not give her up, i did not let her slip past my admiration.

I did not deconstruct every inch of my own happiness just to see hers blossom.

I did not make my garden around her only to spray it with weed poision.

I did not let you have her to see you waste her requited love.

To the boy that the girl I love loves.

I never wanted you to know that I love her but i can’t watch this.

I can’t watch you both stumble in the stage of i don’t know, when you both do.

Please love her with every kindling flame you have in your body.

Turn your apprhensions into leaps and amplify every ounce of your emotions.

I can appeal to my own pain, I can pretend that I don’t love her.

But she will never be able to get over you.
