Poetry about accepting, moving on

I know it was a long time ago

When we drifted apart

Before we went on our own paths

We both made a promise to each other

You promised me you’d come back

While I promised that I’d wait for you

But when years passed by

I started to believe you lied to me

You never intended to come back at all

And your promise became nothing

The months went by

And years came

I swore to myself that one day

I’d forget you

To erase you forever

So I could ease the pain inside me

The hollow emptiness you left behind

And I told myself

With tears in my eyes;

“No more promises. It’s over.”
