Prism

promise

Colours of light combine

to make white.

A lack of light

produces black.

The rainbow that is Truth

requires a prism,

a multifaceted lens

comprised of

love and honesty

humility and pride.

I am all colours -

empty and still containing all things,

black and white, empty space and blank page.

Mix the brown of my freckles and the red of my blood,

the blue of my eyes and the calico of my hair.

Empty and waiting to be filled,

black and white, empty space and blank page.

Take your prism and

see me.

What you see is what you will see.

What I see is not what you see.

The red and blue,

the orange, the yellows,

the green, the purples,

that form the glorious rainbow of you

keep you from seeing

me.

Close your eyes.

See the warmth of my heart.

See the cool of my thoughts.

See all the colours of me

in my words and my deeds

my hopes and my fears.

I am a rainbow -

a promise of better things

seen through a prism of love and honesty

humility and pride.

You are too.
