Pretty Lil Girl

You are so pretty,

You are so adorable -

Meanwhile, my friend who is just as pretty and adorable

You are so smart,

You are so intelligent-

I didn't want to be just pretty & She didn’t want to be just smart _

We both wanted to be pretty and smart_

That year at camp, I thought I was the only one that knew, that I could not read_

Even though I was miles away from home and school, where some kids often called me and my classmates-

Dumb Educated Children or Dummies Eating Chicken_

I was more determined_determined that_ that would be the school year that I would learn, I admit I had a blockage, It just could not stop me_

By the age of 10, I was reading chapter books

I read Ann Frank and that book about that girl who ran away, by the 8th grade, I was on a roll_

People still tried me,

They wanted to see how fast or slow I could go,

I failed a lot of those tests back then_

I started noticing how they reacted,

I think I grew into an introverted smarty_

It seemed that as long as they thought I was still a ‘Dumb Educated Child, they were all that_

Sadly, I continued to, dumb myself down_

UNTIL, They would twine (twin) me, then the top popped.

Astonished and amazed that I was not an enraged uneducated clown-

Pretty & Smart

With a pen in one hand and a book in the other_

With the bursting of laughter, ready to read, check, then copy.
