Pretend we have forever

A Poem about being present

It's been a while! I've been focusing a lot of my efforts on my Substack, but I did this poem the other day and thought it would be nice to publish it here as well.

Enjoy!

***

Stop looking at it.

You know what it’s doing.

Grains of sand are falling.

And with each one you’re stalling.

*

The more you watch it,

The more time you waste.

Worried about what remains,

Donning self-inflicted chains.

*

What would happen?

If you simply looked away?

Would the hourglass cease?

Would you finally know peace?

*

No, it would continue its march.

But your mind would be free.

You could seize the day.

So, what do you say?

*

Just be present for once.

Enjoy this moment we have.

Time forever marches on.

But we only have until dawn.

*

The past and the future,

They don't matter.

Here and now is ours.

Sitting under endless stars.

*

Yes, there you go.

Take your eyes off it.

Pretend we have forever.

That our bond will not sever.

*

Hold me close as the story ends.

Cosmic hands flip the hourglass,

just as they were asked.

A reminder that our time has passed.

  • Heyyy Bradley, good to see you back! You're absolutely right, we should try not to dwell on the past or future, and enjoy the present. Loved your poem! I've subscribed to your Substack and followed you on Instagram hehehe
