This piece is dedicated to all those we have lost, who live on forever in our stories and in our hearts.
***
I have discovered a secret,
I no longer wish to keep it.
To everlasting, eternal life,
Away from hardship and strife.
*
To achieve immortality,
And avoid death's finality,
One must cut open their chest,
And bleed like all the rest.
*
Take hold of a blank page,
One that has yellowed with age,
Soak ink and your tears within,
Confess to it your every sin.
*
Craft with your mind, a world filled,
With memories death has killed.
Your body will fade one day,
But that ink will always stay.
*
I've ensured your memory will live on,
Through every dusk and every dawn,
Passed down through countless stories,
Of your life and your many past glories.
*
I cannot protect you from relentless time
I know the day will come when you won't be mine,
But for now, I use this power to write you down,
Forever a resident in my fictional town.
*
One day soon we'll meet in that place,
There, I will recall your shining grace,
I will be by your side once more,
Together, just like it was before.
*

Loved the sentiment of this, Bradley! Really liked the lines, “But for now, I use this power to write you down, Forever a resident in my fictional town”
But that ink will always stay - what a beautiful line. Thought this was such a lovely poem.
So lovely! That line about being a resident in your own fictional town hit so hard for me, I’m definitely there all the time too!
